Tools: Data Uncertainty Analysis
Uncertainty and risk assessment are receiving increasing attention in to-day's water management. For instance, the Water Framework Directive and its supporting documents frequently point towards the need for 'sufficient confidence' of reported values.
Within the FP5 project HarmoniRIB, a Data Uncertainty Engine (DUE) has been developed to specify the uncertainty for a data set and analysis its impact. The Aquastress project has taken DUE forward by embedding it in UA/DA-Tools, an existing framework that manages ensemble model runs and communicates with these models through open interfaces such as OpenMI (www.openmi.org) and OpenDA (www.openda.org).
UA/DA-Tools is a software framework for:
- specifying uncertainties in environmental data (uncertainty assessment)
- generating realisations of uncertain data for use in modelling studies (uncertainty propagation analysis)
- deploying ensemble model runs to propagate uncertainty into model outputs
- combining observations and model data with data assimilation techniques to update model status and improve forecasting capabilities.
UA/DA-Tools is developed in Java. The following material is available for download:
